## Start with the geography.

Wilmington is in New Hanover County, south of the Hampstead and Topsail area. A Wilmington mailing address may extend beyond city limits, so verify the jurisdiction and relevant rules.

## Three checks before you commit.

1. Verify zoning and permits for intended additions, accessory uses, or rental plans.
2. For older homes, examine renovation records, systems, drainage, and any historic-district requirements.
3. For condominiums, review association finances, master insurance, assessments, and use restrictions.
